October Member Meeting

A recap of the October Member Meeting.

This month, we came together for a practical and timely conversation about social media, which has become an important part of advocacy and awareness work.

This session was especially meaningful because our speaker was Tara Farrell, GCCA's Creative Director. She shared insights and practical tips with our member organizations. It was a wonderful reminder of the value of learning from one another and the knowledge and experience within our global community.

Social media provides cancer advocacy organizations with an opportunity to raise awareness, share important information, connect with communities, and amplify the voices of patients and survivors. But simply posting content is not always enough. The challenge is knowing how to capture attention and encourage people to engage with what we share.

Our Social Media 101 session explored the basics of creating posts that stand out, attract attention, and communicate messages effectively, from the content we share to how we present it. The discussion highlighted the importance of being intentional about our social media presence.

We also explored the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a practical tool to support content creation. AI can help organizations generate ideas, develop captions, and improve how they communicate their messages, particularly when resources and time are limited.Used thoughtfully, it can be a helpful addition to the tools available to small advocacy organizations.

Effective communication truly matters. Whether we are sharing screening information, promoting an awareness campaign, telling a patient story, or advocating for better access to care, how we communicate can influence whether our message reaches the people who need to hear it.

We all left the meeting with new insights, practical ideas, and tools we can take forward into our work.

Our next meeting is on November 18, 2026, at 15:00 UTC. We hope you’ll join us!
