May Member Meeting

A recap of the May Monthly Member Meeting.

At our recent member engagement session, we had the privilege of speaking with Trevor Maxwell, Founder of Man To Cancer, in an insightful and deeply moving interview. Trevor’s story, leadership, and unwavering commitment to advocacy continue to inspire many across the cancer community.

He shared reflections on his personal journey and the power of community in helping men navigate the realities of cancer. His openness reminded us that advocacy is about human connection, compassion, and creating spaces where patients and survivors feel seen and heard.

We unpacked the reasons why many men isolate after being diagnosed with cancer, and how communities, healthcare providers, advocates, and families can better support them.

The discussion opened an honest conversation about masculinity, vulnerability, fear, and the emotional realities men often carry silently during their cancer journey. Trevor shared how many men are conditioned to appear strong, independent, and emotionally controlled, which can make it difficult to ask for help or openly discuss their diagnosis, fears, or mental health struggles.

The conversation challenged us to think differently about how support systems are designed. Trevor emphasized the need to create safe, non-judgmental spaces where men feel comfortable sharing their experiences in ways that feel authentic to them. This may not always look like traditional support groups. For some men, connection may happen through mentorship, peer conversations, or simply having someone consistently check in.

Our next meeting is on June 17th at 08:00 UTC. We hope you’ll join us!
