Breaking Barriers to Clinical Trials:Learning from Trials of Color
Our latest Member Meeting featured an inspiring and informative presentation from Sharon Rivera Sanchez, the founder of Trials of Color, an organization dedicated to improving awareness, access, and representation in clinical trials.
Sharon is a global advocate dedicated to ending health disparities and ensuring equity for underserved communities. She herself is a Triple Negative Breast Cancer survivor and a participant in five medical clinical trials.
Clinical trials are essential for advancing cancer research and developing new treatments but many communities remain underrepresented in research. Trials of Color is working to change this by connecting patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and advocacy organizations with trusted information and resources that make clinical trials more accessible and inclusive.
The presentation also highlighted the work of Trials of Color in building trust within communities, promoting equitable access to research and fostering partnerships that place patients at the center of clinical research. We talked about how patient advocacy organizations can support their communities by raising awareness about clinical trials, and helping patients understand their options.
The session concluded with a lively discussion, as members shared experiences, asked thoughtful questions, and explored ways to access and integrate clinical trial education into their own advocacy work across different regions.
