2024 Blue Hat Bow Tie Weekend: Asia, Europe, and North America

In partnership with the Blue Hat Foundation, Blue Hat Bow Tie Weekend is GCCA’s Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month initiative. To spread awareness and promote colorectal cancer screening, GCCA supports organizations and individuals to hold events in their communities and provides free event planning and promotional resources as well as medically accurate, patient-friendly educational materials. More than 20 organizations and individuals held events for Blue Hat Bow Tie Weekend. These wonderful advocates spread awareness about colorectal cancer and shared information about screening and prevention in communities around the world.

Blue Hat Bow Tie Weekend Highlights in Asia, Europe, and North America

In Lebanon, SAID NGO held their Annual Walkathon for colorectal cancer awareness and screening. The event was a celebration of community and commitment, where they raised awareness and distributed screening vouchers.

The Bhutan Cancer Society had a youth and college event to spread awareness of colorectal cancer and promote screening.

CORUM attended a prestigious coloproctology symposium in Malaysia and made presentations on the topics of survivorship, cutting-edge imaging, rehabilitation, nutrition, caregiving, and the holistic benefits of Onco Yoga. The team proudly donned all-blue attire, including shirts and headwear. CORUM’s dedicated volunteers handcrafted the blue hats, showcasing their commitment to raising awareness for colorectal cancer.

In Croatia, the Institute for Gastroenterological Tumors participated with many physical activities. Hiking, horseback riding, tennis, and dance wearing blue scarves and shawls brought attention and awareness to their events.

On behalf of GCCA, our Outreach Manager, Jenn Wine, held an awareness event at a church in Pennsylvania. Jenn spoke to the congregation about colorectal cancer signs and symptoms, and the importance of advocating for yourself. She and her family also shared some sweet treats promoting colorectal cancer screening with her community.

The Blue Hat Foundation, led by GCCA’s Director of Equity and Partnerships, Candace Henley, held its annual event in Chicago, Illinois.

Cheeky Charity held a bowling event where they shared educational materials to promote colorectal cancer awareness and screening in an LGBTQ+ and HIV+ community in California.

FUTEJE held a Blue Hat Bow Tie event in Mexico City.

Trials of Color distributed blue hats and ties at two events in an underserved community in Virginia. They raised awareness and promoted early detection and prevention, while creating a positive and inclusive experience for the community.
